If you use an @o2.co.uk email address you were given previously as part of a broadband or mobile phone package, we’re sorry to tell you that this service is soon coming to an end.

Why?
While some people used these free email accounts, the vast majority didn't, and instead have been using popular other email services like Gmail or Outlook (Hotmail) instead. From 7th June 2016, all o2.co.uk email accounts will be closed and you’ll be unable to send or receive emails using your o2.co.uk account from this date.

What about all my emails, attachments and contacts?
We can show you how to transfer your contacts, email addresses and attachments to Gmail and Outlook. Just make sure you move them before your o2.co.uk email account closes on 7th June. Unfortunately, we can’t transfer them to Yahoo! Mail, so you’ll need to set up either a Gmail or Outlook account to move them.

Likewise, if you use your O2 email address as your log-in for any online services, like banking or shopping, you'll need to update those too. Some customers manage their O2 account from their o2.co.uk email address. If you do too, take a look at www.o2.co.uk/myo2 where you can see your balance, check your bill and get the low down on your account any time you like with My O2.

We’ll be in touch again before June 7th, just to remind you of what’s happening. Until then, we hope this won’t cause too much trouble.

Got any questions or concerns?
Please let us know below – we always welcome and appreciate feedback. If you need more help transferring your emails and contacts, feel free to speak to an O2 Guru - Just check out Live Chat here, or pop into one of our shops.

Remember you can find more info on everything mentioned above here on our website

Strangely enough the email that is affected is a secondary email I set up on o2. The original one that I use to log into my account is still working fine. It's just the same this morning, still can't get into my secondary email account.

We have had another poster with problems this morning @Anonymous. It does look as if they are closing down the servers http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple-iOS-Devices-iPhone-iPad/Email-account-problems/td-p/969822

So what's that... 3 in the last 2 days.
Looks like the switch off has begun.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

It's inevitable but in all honesty, they said June and shouldn't be switching servers off until then. I know we advise people to change over as soon as possible but there are probably thousands who leave it until the last minute. I would be annoyed if I thought I had another month to do this and then found access denied before the scheduled switch off.

Never surprised. When you look at my services they have abandoned I'm not shocked at all. Two attempts at a Money card and two attempts at storage/backup options. Would I insure my car through O2 Drive? Not a chance!!

I've always had an O2 mobile phone in order to retain my O2 mail account as primary since way back. This move has caused no end of issues abd stress as more and more O2 mail address associated accounts come to light.

Shabby excuse for an e-mail notification which is matter of fact and disrespectful at best, given O2's choice to just drop a service with literally no real explanation that an adult can be expected to swallow. 'Lot's of people don't use theirs' may wash for a 10 year old but that explains nothing to justify all this customer disruption for those that do.

I initially joined O2 when they were selling themselves on their UK only call centres, taking broadband and mobile. This is when there appeared to be customer satsfaction high on the list of priorities. This has eroded away drastically over the last couple of years as the glossy shine of every aspect of the company as a whole fades to a dull grey.

No reason to stay beyond the shut down date and will be looking for a fresh mobile provider (.....and the wife).

Make sure your new provider gives you good signal coverage before you leave and there was never a need to keep your mobile just to retain your email account.

Assuming you're right, seems I was mislead then. The fact that I don't get O2 coverage at work is a daily reminder that coverage is an obvious consideration.Thanks.

Until the closure date, is there still a way of accessing the webmail portal? I can no longer find it. Thanks

Hi @Anonymous There is an update to this closure ....now the 20th June.

http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Welcome-News/Update-on-the-O2-Webmail-closure/m-p/975408#M16065

Info on transferring contacts to a new email provider here...

http://www.o2.co.uk/help/digital-services/o2-email-closure-transferring-your-contacts

Though if you can't find the portal for webmail it may have already closed for you. It will be a gradual closure UP till the 20th when the servers will close for good ..
