I have been charged £1.666 a day for travel data while in Italy what is this charge as I had mobile data off

Phone calls and texts will also invoke the charge if you have o2 travel enabled.

Unfortunately if you have O2 Travel then just sending one text will trigger the daily charge of £1.99 (inc.VAT).

Certain phones may have problems with little data usage such as a few KBs even when mobile data is switched off in settings and I experienced something like this years ago when I am abroad and being charged for some amount about 1p by my home network provider(not in the UK) and I have to ask my home network provider to switch off data roaming on their side.

 

I put local SIM cards for data when travelling in my dual SIM phone purchased this year and should be effective in avoiding accidental data roaming charges.
