i have an o2 sim without the packet or credit
does anyone know how to find out the mobile number?

As no one actually answered your question, even though it's several years late:

 

"Text NUMBER to 2020 – it's free to send this text and we'll reply with your phone number."

 

Found this through google, supposed to be from this O2 page but I haven't actually been able to find the quoted information on that link.

Hi. If you can put your sim in a SonyE and go to tools-general-scroll down to Phone Status-ok. This should tell you the number the sim originally came with , but not if you have transfered it since from another sim or net work.(Or a quicker way just briefly press the bottom of the volume switch).
This works in both my SE k530i and w910i.

Hi, I suspect that this has already been solved but another solution is to ring *#100# on your mobile and the number will appear on your display. grin

*#100# (as far as I'm aware) only works with vodafone
