It's possible that roaming isn't enabled on your account which CS would have to enable for you.
You can use one of the other phones in your party to call, it's free from an O2 phone abroad

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Hi

Can you go into your phones settings and manually latch into the local network ?

You may need to contact Customer Service to have your account checked.

Check here for using your phone abroad as it's not cheap http://www.o2.co.uk/international/internationalhub

My son stayed in Las Vegas and used free wifi, what's app , viber and o2's Tugo on wifi.

Also the use of a local SIM card if your phones unlocked to all networks is an option but that does mean you'd have to check what that local network charges for calling both within that country and to phone home. And you'll have a temporary number

I have found that O2 Customer Services ask for you to call them before you go abroad...if this is the first time with this phone.

They have to provision your account. I was also told that it is O2's additional security measure..

EDIT: apologies @MI5  I have just repeated what you said.Smiley Embarassed
