TEXTS COSTS

Anonymous
Not applicable

Why do some texts cost more than others to send to another UK mobile? I'm on payg and costs are ranging between 12p and 36p. Is it my phone (Sony Experia E1-only a month old) or does it depend on the length of the text? 59 year old female who's not all that savvy with this new stuff!

It would depend what network you are sending to.

Other networks would cost more than sending to someone else on O2

Not other UK networks though.

Text to any UK mobile will be 12p. If your text message is more than 160 character, then you'll be charged double of it.
Also as you're getting charged as 36p, it might be of MMS as MMS is charged as 35p per MMS.

36p will most likely be 3 texts.
Even if you only write one message that has more than 320 characters, you will be charged for 3 standard texts.
The maximum you can send as a text is 480 characters.

And most phones inform you if they are converting to MMS?....

Most do but some require that you enable the warnings in the settings menu.
