Payg data charge

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have a plain payg sim for a smartphone. I don't use it for calls or texts but might want occasional access to 3g.

I am trying to understand the charge. It says "£3/MB up to max £1/day"

OK, if I connect it immediately deducts £1. On the face of it that means my £1 gives me 0.3MB. Is that correct?

What does it mean by "max". A data limit or just remaining credit?

Also, once I have made a connection, does it remain true payg or does unused credit get lost after so many days?

It can be a little confusing.

It is as I say however.

If someone runs out of their data allowance or has no data allowance in their payg tariff they are put on web daily.

This deducts £1 from your available credit to use 50MB of data for that day. It does not roll over so if you access the internet again the next day a person is charged £1 again.

Which is why we either advise to use wifi until the next refresh date and turn off Mobile data in the phones settings , or add a data bolt on or look at another tariff that meets your current usage needs.

Hi

Usually it's web daily which is £1 for 50mb per day.

You may want to choose a more appropriate payg tariff with data via your myo2.

http://www.o2.co.uk/termsandconditions/mobile/pay-and-go-web-daily-web-daily-bolt-on-monthy-web-bolt...

A smartphone cries out to be connected to the data service. Even if only to update apps and use location services and weather updates etc.

Payg current tariffs http://www.o2.co.uk/tariffs/payandgo

Be aware though once a person switches tariffs if the old one is no longer available to new customers you won't be able to switch back.

Or just look at data bolt ons. More info in my link above.

Yes I have seen that and, oddly, is a page about monthly charges. There is another sheet about "payg big bundles" where I got the "£3/MB up to max £1/day" from. I am looking for an interpretation.

I just found another message http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-and-Pay-Go/What-is-quot-O2-Web-Daily-quot/td-p/164249 which makes it even more confusing. So if there is unlimited daily allowance for £1, what is £3/MB?

"You will be charged at a rate of £3 per MB until you have spent £1 on data usage. At this point, further usage of data for that day will be free subject to a fair usage of 50MB for the day"

Doesn't make sense.

I think they have worded it to make it sound like they are giving you a great deal at £1 for 50mb in reality what it means is you would use about a third of a megabyte then you will be paying £1 for the rest of the day

Well, I took a risk and tried using some data. After the original £1 taken off credit did not go down. So that question probably answered. Just hope now that connecting doesn't mean that unused credit disappears after so many days.
