O2 Rewards Scam

Text received from O2UK earlier today:

O2: Fancy some extra credit? Or a new accessory?
Help yourself. With your O2 Rewards. But they won't be around forever.
From 2 October, your O2 rewards will expire two years after you save them. We'll always let you know when you need to use yours by.

Fair enough.

I've got £9 stored in my rewards account but when trying to reclaim that as credit on my PAYG phone today I received this text message:

O2 Rewards: Thanks for your claim. You can't claim your rewards because you didn't earn any in the previous quarter.

My O2 experience is seriously going downhill.

If you call customer services they will be able to verify what rewards you have/had and when they have been used.

Overall the rewards scheme has been a great benefit to Pay and Go. I'm sure the person who walked out of my store today with a free phone from their rewards would agree.

What part of this are you misunderstanding? I can verify online my rewards balance but can't claim it!

O2 Rewards: Thanks for your claim. You can't claim your rewards because you didn't earn any in the previous quarter.

ETA: From OP: We'll always let you know when you need to use yours by.
