I received a text from O2 today about their new rates for using our mobile in Europe; called O2 Travel.
a) There will be a 50p connection charge to make or receive a call and then it uses your UK call allowance. If you use up your allowance, you will be charged at the standard rates (35p/min).
b) Data will be charged at £1.99 (and no more) for each day you use data with a daily allowance of 25MB. If you go over this allowance, you will be notified and if you do it too much, you will be charged at their standard rates (£3.07/MB.
Some questions:
When calling another O2 mobile while in Europe will it use my free O2 to O2 minutes with a 50p connection charge. And does it matter if the other O2 user is also in Europe?
It seems O2 standard rates will still be above the new EU standards. Does this mean that when you've used up all your allowance; O2 are basically charging too much. Shouldn't their standard rates go down as well?

I agree this is like a rip off and like vodafone passport.
I underrstand that new EU rates are 29ppm not 35ppm "The new regulations will be published at the end of June. The regulations will be enforced for 10 years. From July, making a call will cost no more than €0.29 (24p) per minute while taking a call will cost no more than €0.08 (6p)." Therse figures ex VAT so I understand its 29p and 8p.
I dont see it within the regs that they can charges this rate and I have contacted OFT

Hi
I have not yet received a text from O2 with regards to this.
Do we know is this new O2 Travel 50p connection and then mins from your allowance going to be available to everyone?
Will we have to add it to our account or will this new charge simply start to apply from July?
I spend about a week a month in France and try my best not to pay international roaming fees by using a landline but somtimes I need to use my mobile. VF passport has always been a good option for me but as it is currently this is going to be cheaper.

I wish they were not removing the web daily. I want the cheeper data when abroad but I'm sure as hell not happy at having to pay 50p just to receive a call that may last less than a minute.
Looking at my figures from last year (3 weeks in France) I will be seriously out of pocket with this one.
I will probably divert my O2 phone to one on another network which will work out cheaper, and then leave my O2 phone at home.

Shame about the web daily. I only got it added to my account last month and I will be able to use it twice before the new charges kick in. I would much prefer web daily. More ino here:
