How can I be charged for mobile data.....

Anonymous
Not applicable

...if I've turned off data roaming and mobile data in settings why am I still getting charged £1 whenever I leave my home?

My mobile is a Samsung J3 and it is 4G connectivity. I'm on PAYG.

Since typing this I have created a new fake access point name to prevent connection and dropped the 4G down to 3G because I'm running out of cash and patience!

Surely I shouldn't have to resort to delving in deeper to solve the problem (if indeed it will work).

Again, if I turn off the settings to allow my phone to connect to a network for internet access when I do not want it to charge me then surely it shouldn't charge me?!

Yet it is. :confused

Well it certainly shouldn't if data really is turned off.
When you go out of wifi range do you see 3g, H or 4g at the top of your screen?

Not on android. MMS will fail unless data is on now.

Not sure if it's the same for iPhones though, but as this customer has a Samsung it shouldn't be the issue here.

It may be worth checking your home router to ensure your phone is maintaining a constant connection. My router at home occasionally drops the wireless connection to my phone and once that happens my phone then connects to 4/3G. If this is happening to you that may explain it. Although if you have turned off your data 3/4G connectivity it shouldn't.

Yes, as already said, IF data is turned off but I suspect it isn't fully disabled.

Some phones do generate a little data traffic even if data roaming is off so certain ISP in Hong Kong does recommend switching data roaming off on ISP side.

We're not talking about data roaming here though - just home network data use.
