Can't top up by phone or web

Newly activated PAYG SIM - can't top up online or via 4444. Trying to top up online gives a page titled "O2 - Error 500" with the message "It looks like something's gone wrong. We're looking into it and hope to get it fixed soon." ...and of course a picture of that freaky-looking cat with the stick in its mouth 😞

Tried THREE different Internet browsers and two different cards - credit and debit.

Support guy on web chat said that there was "no top-up error on your account" and that "It seems to be some temporary technical error".

But - he then said that sometimes when the SIM card is new it requires a manual top-up - is this true? It's majorly inconvenient if so.....

I'm puzzled by this if 4444 isn't working there would be thousands of complaints on here, what happened when you tried to use it?

I did, I did.... see my first post 😞

I'll just wait and try a top-up voucher from a shop. I don't want to pay any more than I have to - it's just an old phone that's locked to O2 I was going to give someone to use.

Calling 4444 is free from your mobile and the landline number is a local priced call to 03456 062 277

I'm sure the number has changed from the one in the other link and the numbers are now here:

That Link will give you a voucher code as if you were in a shop.

Attempting a top-up through 4444 gives the message "Sorry, your top-up was unsuccessful". I've tried twice with a debit *and* a credit card.
