data use abroad

Hi

This will sound like a stupid question, but its the first time I have take a smart phone abroad!

If the hotel offers free wifi, does this mean I will incurr NO charges from 02?

I have just found out if I text Data to 2020 if I use Data they will charge me £1.50 a day - I thought this was a good safety net and it gives me 15mb a day. (travelling to Spain)

I have read how to turn off data abroad, turn off automatic updating and turn off background data.

Im so worried about incurring a huge bill and I guess the safest thing to do is take a non smart phone instead which I have but think the smart phone may be useful as Im going on my own.

Re: data use abroad

O2 don't charge for Wi-fi use, just check that any Wi-fi in an hotel or anywhere else is in fact free, as not all are.
