In response to an increase in VAT in the EU and currency changes, and as a result of last week's VAT-related price change, it has come to our attention that between Oct 2012 and Oct 2014 there was a system error which resulted in some of our customers paying the incorrect rate of VAT on some services.

As scams go, it's very well written. No spelling or grammatical errors. That's unusual.

What concerns me is that they must have got all the information from O2 as there are details on my O2 account that are slightly incorrect and this has been put on the scam email. Also they have my registration number and PUK code and devide number, all of which are only registered at O2.  Inside job or do they sell our details on to fraudsters??    Very concerned.

And so it begins again. More sophisticated than the last scam. Something has to be done and quickly

There will be many people NOT posting on here that think its genuine.

I don't think the statement made by O2 relating to the last load of scams is going to cover it this time

We were assured last time that the level of detail was NOT sold on. It was inferred that the problem lay with the individual computers and malware?

Unusual though that it only appeared to be affecting O2 customers...

Long thread started here yesterday...others joined in so it wasn't just related to vat refund scams

The level of detail is too significant. This is an o2 issue not personal pc issue.

It is if the original isn't written correctly, which this one obviously was. This is the first one in a very long time that I've seen that's been that good. Most of these mails are written by scammers whose first language isn't English, which is why it's easy to spot the errors. This one seems much more sophisticated, and the fact that all the OP's details were pretty much correct is very worrying.
