O2 ISSUED A DEFAULT ON MY WIFES CREDIT FILE WITHOUT WARNING

In june of 2010 me and my wife moved homes and immediatley informed O2 of this. Unfortunatley the area coverage was extremely poor in our new area and we were unable to use our mobile broadband. I spoke with the technical department on many occassions to try to resolve this but they eventually agreed that there was nothing they could do. I then spoke with a manager at O2 call centre who was realy helpfull and agreed that the only option was a full termination of the service and contract which was effective immediately. She also advised as we paid our last bill that there was no money outstanding.
We have been refused credit for months and we thought that it was just down to the recession. On checking our credit file with Equifax O2 have put that there was a missed payment in July, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov then issued a DEFAULT in december. THEY DID THIS WITHOUT ANY ATTEMPT OF CONTACTING ME OR MY WIFE WHICH IS ILLEGAL. NO PHONE CALLS (even though we both have O2 mobiles), NO LETTERS, NO EMAILS = NOTHING!!!
We have a 6 month old daughter at home and we were trying to get a mortgage this month and O2 have now destoyed our credit in a time when it is near impossible to obtain credit even with a PERFECT credit score. O2 will now cost us further rental payments on a home until we can get this removed and have cost us nearly £2000 in car repairs because we couldnt get credit for a new car. O2 HAVE DESTROYED OUR LIVES AND PUT IMMENSE PRESSURE ON US AND OUR NEW FAMILY. We have suffered financial hardship due to their incompetance. This was even confirmed by their O2 call centre who appologised and were distraught that they did this.
Aparently the O2 department who deals with this (Credit file refferals Dept) do not take calls ( how convenient) and the only way we can contact them is by email, fax or letter. We emailed them on friday 4th March but no response as yet.
We have been crying and distraught and what O2 have done to us and urge customers to step very carefully in dealing with O2 as their conduct is disgusting.
Any help or advice that anyone can give us on getting this removed from our credit profile and what we can do about the conduct we have recieved from O2 would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Dave :robotsad:

Re: O2 ISSUED A DEFAULT ON MY WIFES CREDIT FILE WITHOUT WARN

The place to go is the complaint review service
But the issue is the incorrect advice of the manager
She also advised as we paid our last bill that there was no money outstanding.

As until you get a final bill with zero on they would have tried to take the money, I guess you cancled the direct debit? There would have been a bill of monthly fee x months left on contract to pay.
But put all the facts in an emil to the crs with a suggested outcome who will reply according to there own info in 5 working days.

Re: O2 ISSUED A DEFAULT ON MY WIFES CREDIT FILE WITHOUT WARN

thanks for your advice. If it is the conduct of the manager in question then it is still O2 responsible as they are responsible for the training and conduct of all their staff and trying to shift repsonsability is not comendable.
Also the issuing of a Default without notice is Illegal so surely it is also the fault of whoever did this as well. Overall it seems like it is more than just the error of the manager and the error of a few staff at O2 (very worrying).
The default amount on our credit file is £8.00 THATS RIGHT I DIDNT MISS-TYPE- EIGHT POUND. No final bill was received I admit but neither was a bill for £8.00 or any other correspondance. SHOCKING.
I have emailed the Credit Referral Team and awaiting a response.
IN SUMMARY - DONT TOUCH O2 WITH A BARGEPOLE. I am cancelling both our mobiles and will never touch them again.
You didnt mention OTELO (ombudsman for telecomincations), ive just found their details on the internet and have made an official complaint.

I have now found on the internet that I am not the only person to suffer this torment. Please click this link:

I am not sure if I feel better or worse that it is also happening to other people. DISGUSTING CONDUCT !!!!!
Why is it only O2 who do not follow the guidlines set out to protect people from being issued defaults? with the economic cliamte as it is this is frightening.
DO NOT ENTER A CREDIT AGREEMENT WITH O2 !!

Re: O2 ISSUED A DEFAULT ON MY WIFES CREDIT FILE WITHOUT WARN

Abs has said he's investigating what has happened for you, so it may be better easing up on the ranting until you know all the facts.
You certainly won't drive away an appreciable number of O2 customers in this way.
We're only getting what you are saying about this, but from what you've written it seems that you cancelled a direct debit before the account was properly closed.

Re: O2 ISSUED A DEFAULT ON MY WIFES CREDIT FILE WITHOUT WARN

Thanks perksie, I have been informed of all the facts.

I have been informed today from the credit team at O2 that the correct procedure was NOT followed. They have admitted complete fault for the incident and are very apologetic. It wasnt down to a cancelled direct debit as you are trying to guess.
Your absulutley right - I wont drive away many customers this way - I will go to the newspapers, thanks for the idea

Oh dear ! appears hundreds have complained about the same thing:

Appears I am not the only one (as perksie arrogantly put it) "ranting".
