BT Openzone - iPhone 4 need to login every time.

Good Morning,
I recently got an iPhone and seem to have to login to BT Openzone every time I use it, even if it is the same Openzone spot.
I previously had an iPod Touch and this remembered my BT Openzone username and password, so never had to re-enter it.
I have tried the BT Fon App on the iPhone and that didn't seem to want to connect at all so uninstalled it.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Mat

Are you sure you haven't set up a paid for Openzone account?
You should only have to enter your mobile number to connect, and only the first time:

Re: BT Openzone - iPhone 4 need to login every time.

Well, I am using the myLogon@btinternet.com logon that I got as part of my BT Broadband package - so not paying for it directly.
Should there be a separate Openzone account for my o2 iPhone account?
Either way, I have never seen the option to enter a phone number, I just get the following screen on my phone...every time..relentlessly!

Once I have logged in it is fine, but as soon as the session dies I have to re-enter my details.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Re: BT Openzone - iPhone 4 need to login every time.

the included openzones will present for the first time a blue screen asking for mobile number only once entered then you will be fine.
What you have posted is not an included openzone 3 types appear but only 1 is valid for the other 2 you use you bt broadband deal.
A search of these forums using openzone will confirm this.

Not sure I follow this. Have read other posts and the whole area of openzone access seems very confused.
So I need to find a super duper 'included' openzone and it will ask for my phone number, otherwise I am on broadband only openzones! This doesn't sound right and either way a check of my location (SW15) via the http://consumero2.directoryconnection.com/search.php tells me there are tons of valid Iphone hotspots.
I don't care whether I use a 'broadband only' openzone hotspot or an 'included' hotspot. I just dont want to have to re-enter my user name and password every few minutes!
This seems completely chaotic. I program computers for a living, so am relatively tech savvy. God know how other users cope with this madness.

Re: BT Openzone - iPhone 4 need to login every time.

when you are at one that is in the directory you should get a blue o2 branded screen asking for mobile number only. This will happen once at openzone and once at the cloud and then remembers you te other 2 openzones residential btfon and business btopenzone (not included) will ask for login credentials.

Re: BT Openzone - iPhone 4 need to login every time.

Nobody has pointed this out but the screenshot you posted shows you are connected to a BT Fon hotspot. O2 only give you access to BT OpenZone and Cloud hotspots, so if you are having to enter login details all the time it's probably because it's a Fon hotspot.
With actual OpenZone hotspots, as already mentioned, you only enter your mobile number once and it registers the devices mac address on the BT OpenZone system, granting you automatic access to the hotspots next time your in range.

I had noticed that - but just assumed it was a bug as the wifi network I am connected to says BTOpenZone. I purposely didn't choose FON (although I am signed up to FON).

Don't quite understand? Anyone else?

all 3 are the same access point with different names.
This is the very issue that has been discussed to death on these forums.
If you get an opennzone with either fon/homehub or business hub at the same time chances are it is not included but when in range of a genuine openzone you should not see fon / business hub
see some discussion on the bt forums http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Out-About ... 8171#M2024

Basically, O2 have no way to distinguish between BT Fon and BT OpenZone - this is a BT issue and not an O2 one. That said, when you are at a BT Fon hotspot you will see BT OpenZone show up too but it's still physically a BT Fon one. A lot of MBB users seem to call support due to this issue - they just assume because it says BT OpenZone they should be able to connect to it, but it's the way BT operate the Fon/OZ side of their business, but it does make it a little messy for O2 customers wanting to connect to a commercial wifi hotspot.
If you ever have OpenZone issues, check the hotspot directory here: http://www.o2.co.uk/support/broadbandin ... sshotspots
If the hotspot you are trying to connect to isn't listed in the directory, it's more than likely a BT Fon hotspot.
