BT Openzone compatability with O2 wifi

Hi, sorry if this has already been repeated. Searching through the other posts I can see lots of similar issues but nothing quite the same.

Ive been to my local St*rbucks and they have BT Openzone wifi.
Ive tried to connect to it using my O2 wifi (O2 Connection Mgr on Windows Vista Laptop). I can get to the main log in page (BT Openzone customers input a user id and password). I can select O2 customer and get redirected to another sub-homepage where I get asked to enter my mobile broadband number. When I do this I get the message "Unable to complete the login call. Please try again". This happens repeatedly.
I do have credit, I can access O2 wireless fine, and have connected to The Cloud successfully all within the last months. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, when searching for Wifi hotspots on the O2 site, it only shows 'The Cloud' results, but I was sold the dongle under the premise that I could also use the BT Openzone sites. Therefore Im assuming that I can use all the hotspots on the O2 web site and more. Is this correct?

Thanks,

jammy

BT Openzone compatability with O2 wifi

Sounds like you need to upgrade the connection manager software if it isnt listing any BT Internet sites.

BT Openzone Wi Fi and O2

I posted a very similar query but have ot seen any replies ..(I could be looking in the wrong place)

My question remains: Is O2 in partnership with BT Openzone or not. If not, then they are guilty of fraudelent advertising ... is anyone even bothered?

With regard to the above, In my case, I have the right software uograde and have had for several months now, in order to make use of the BT Openzone hotspots. The most annoying thing is that there are two hotspots up here (Birnam Dunkeld Perthshire area) that often display a very good signal connection but that then ask me to PAY for net useage.

Simply said; why should I pay for it under th BT/O2 arrangement/agreement/deal

Something stinks ...

BT Openzone Wi Fi and O2

Windows users should text 'WiFi' to 2121 (you can do this from Connection Manager, provided you're connected to the O2 mobile network (PAYG users can txt this too - but you do get a message advising that texting isnt possible)). This clears registration details held for your Mobile Broadband SIM number and laptop. It can take up to 30 minutes to work. After this you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi

Since doing this I have successfully connected to BT Openzone in Buxton, Derby, Leicester & London and saved a fortune in the process

BT Openzone compatability with O2 wifi

okay, i might be posting in the wrong place for this, i may also be being incredibly stupid, BUT, i've just bought an 02 pay as you go internet dongle, and i'm currently accessing the internet using the 02 network. however i fear i'm going to run out of my internet allowance, and so, as i live in at a bt openzone hot spot i want to connect to it.

except that everytime i try, i get the bt openzone page where you log in with a username and password, but there is no sign of opting for an o2 customer log in where i can enter my mobile number?!?!?! can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong please?

thanks!

BT Openzone compatability with O2 wifi

There are 3 types of BT Openzone hotspots.
R
egular normal ones, which appear on the O2 Hot Spot directory. O2 users can connect to them as long as they have Connection Manager V2 installed.

BT FON hotspots. These won't appear on the O2 directory. These are normally BT home broadband users and O2 customer's cannot connect to them.

Restricted hotspots. Sometimes O2 customers can connect, sometimes they can't. The hotspots are normally rented by a business to attract customers, but because the business is renting them, if they are left un-restricted O2 customer's can connect, but if they are restricted O2 customer's cannot connect. The business owner decides how can connect

BT Openzone compatability with O2 wifi

Hi

I have a problem where many of the BT Openzone hotspots I find are not the ones O2 can connect to. I am using a iPhone 3GS 4.02.

The problem is, the phone always tries to connect to a BT Openzone, you open a browser and it says this is not one supported by O2 - I have yet to find one that is supported. However then my phone cannot use 3G until I turn off wifi until I am away from that hotspot, its got very annoying.

Re: BT Openzone compatability with O2 wifi

I got a similar problem, I have a "O2 UK Wi-Fi (BT Openzone)" hotspot available me in the wifi networks from O2 Manager and I am able to connect to it however every time I try to open a page, I get redirected to the BT Fon site asking me to log in/buy access. However i couldn't find any option for an O2 customer. Also I would like to know why i am directed to the BT Fon site when it clearly shows that I am connected to BT Openzone on O2 Manager.
Thanks.
