Hi, I've not been around for a while, so hope all are well. Ok I just spoke to o2 Tech guy asking about ICS and was told o2 now nothing about it and any way as I have a Galaxy S2 I need to speak to samsung about this and not o2. Now can anybody please let me know what is going on as when I try to update to ICS I get unable to update. Reading around the web I found some things that said my carrier o2 is not releasing ICS for a while :robotindifferent: So what is going on, I even asked that I could use any sim in my phone only to be told he did not know, I asked him to check for me please and was told he can't do that, ok I said please put me in contact with somebody that does, I'm sorry sir no one can tell you that???????/ Um whats going on here with o2?

Re: ice cream sandwich update

Baby H,
Aye seen that but still what is going on with o2 saying they don't know this or that just tried a live chat and asked the same question and was asked what is this Ice Cream Sandwich you are on about are you sure you are in the correct place, tried to explain and was told yet again to talk to samsung. I was waiting for him to tell me to look at Tesco for an ICS. So on that other thread it says o2 are messing with ICS and yet o2 TS say they are not?????

Re: ice cream sandwich update

It's luck of the draw when you phone O2. Some of them know a little bit, some of them know a lot, some of them know nothing. Basically the gist of the other thread says that O2 will be rolling out ICS for the Galaxy SII at the end of this month, but O2's track record on accuracy in that department is always a little suspect. I'm afraid that if you have an O2 branded phone you will just have to wait until the update gets here, unless you're prepared to mess with the phone and download an unofficial update. Good luck.

Re: ice cream sandwich update

Other phone companies are rolling out ICS to Galaxy S2 as we speak. I note however, O2 follow the "mushroom" policy of customer support and keep their customers in the dark and feed them B*****T.
Why should they worry about us? They have our contracts already so zero effort required.
I wish reviewers would not only review phones but also the speed (or otherwise) of how they implement updates. I for one would not choose O2 if I knew they took so long.
Just shows complete lack of support for existing customers and really amateur sales techniques and support.

Re: ice cream sandwich update

Funny how I hear the same complaint on every other Telco's forum regarding updates. Only just read the same over at T-Mobile
To contact O2 click "Contact us" at the bottom of any O2 page, and click the service you need, or wait for "Live Chat" to appear.

Re: ice cream sandwich update

Well 3UK released ICS an hour ago so thats 1 pass on others. So why do we have to wait when it went wild in the uk yesterday???? Does o2 mess with it???? I Don't know if my phone is unlocked/branded or not. All i know is that i can use a t-mobile sim + orange sim + vodafone sim in my SII. As i said i asked CS but he not know.

Who did you buy the phone from? It's obviously unlocked, as you can use other carrier's sims, but if you bought it from O2 and the O2 splash screen comes up when you start your phone, then it's branded to O2 and you will have to wait for O2's update.

Re: ice cream sandwich update

Baby H,
Aye got it from o2 and yes the o2 screen appears when I turn it off or on, in fact so do the other carriers screens when I do the same, so hence a bit confused as not up on this fone tech much. So what will o2 do to ics to make it different to say the samsung ics or the main google ics? If you don't mind my asking. :womanindifferent:

Re: ice cream sandwich update

I have ICS 4.0.3 on my Nexus S although I manually applied the update. There is variation in the menus and the interface seems to be more fluid. The downside is, if you are using any less than a dual-core there is a battery usage issue; due to a kernel optimisation isssue. Allegedly Google will be pushing out a fix in the coming weeks although I'll believe it when I see it.
On the Samsung Galaxy S2 it will be of course Touchwiz skinned and if you have an O2 version of the firmware, you will need to wait weeks for the engineers just to had the image sequence to the start of the process.
I realise they have to test this, however I have had absolutely no updates from O2 over the air. It makes you wonder if this is a practical joke or not. :smileywink:
But seriously, the goalposts keep changing everyday, so nothing you read will be official until you get the push message on your mobile.
