Windows phone 8.1 update for non-nokia devices

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi Everyone!

I have a HTC 8x and I've been waiting for the 8.1 update like everyone else. While the new info from O2 was really helpful, it doesn't say anything about non-Nokia devices so I was wondering if anyone has any information about it?

Hi all,

The reason we've not yet shared any non-Lumia 8.1 info is because it's not information we have we're afraid. It's possible other manufacturers are working on 8.1 for their devices but it's not something they have communicated to us yet.

Sorry we don't have anything to share, but feel free to contact the manufacturer(s) directly to ask about their 8.1 update plans - if they have any.

Hi and Welcome to the Community Forum,

A really good question.

Possibly @Chris_K from the Social Media Team can confirm.

I found this

Sorry to jump in - but would also like to know the answer to the same question for, in this case, the Huawei Ascend W1.

The memory is full now, so the phone has been rendered useless for the purposes for which I bought it.

The upgrade will make it useful again by enabling apps to store data on the SD card.

The other manufacturers would need to be approached directly for an answer.
It's the same with android updates. Not all phones get the same or latest updates.

"The other manufacturers would need to be approached directly for an answer."

According to Microsoft, responsibility lies entirely with O2.

MS are wrong or have misunderstood your question.

HTC, Huawei, Samsung etc will each release their own version to work with their devices before handing over to the networks for approval.

At this point it will become o2`s responsibility but not before.

I shall rephrase. Responsibility to supply the update to the end user lies with O2.

When will it be available?

Same answer.
Once the manufacturer has released their software, the networks will approve it.
Not until then.
Getting a release date from The oe will be a start then Chris_k from The social media team might be able to advise further.
