Neither my Lumia 820 or my 930 will allow me to connect to public wifi hotspots, such as hotels, because although it shows as "connecting" it doesn't open a web page to let me put in login details. I also cannot connect to O2 hotspots such as McDonald's. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks viridis. I don't think I have tried that. I will let you know when I get the chance.

Obviously not that "green" then?

If you are on 8.1 the wifi connection page should open the log in page for you.
If on 8.0 you will have to open your browser and then open a new tab.

You could also try forgetting the network in your wifi settings and try again.

Thanks guys. Tried all of that, but with no success. Both phones on 8.1. The main problem is that the login page won't automatically open.

Does it not redirect if you enter a Web address?

Try disabling mobile data when you do it as it may have some setting which kicks back to mobile data if network unauthorised.

No, nothing happens except the wifi setting page sits there "connecting". The 820 is payg and data is switched off.

Sorry I've never had to troubleshoot mine as it just opens a log in page automatically when I select the open wifi network.
I'm just wondering if you have to change anything in your security settings or advanced wifi settings?

Possibly pop into an O2 shop to see if an onsite Guru can assist.
