Nokia Lumia 1020 - Repairs/warranty etc?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello all,

Just a question regarding this phone. I can purchased a used Lumia 1020.

However, what rights do I have with it if something goes wrong? Warranty wise. Am I covered by the manufacturer. The phone is locked to O2 (Can GiffGaff be used on O2 locked by the way?). Regarding hardware faults.

If I am not covered, say the digitiser is defective, how much am I Looking at?

Last question, say the gorilla glass is scratched to hell, are they easy to replace? Does the whole unit need to be taken apart (as I know some phones have the digitiser and glass combined).

Thanks all,

Mike

Hey all,

Phone arrived, all is well.

However, wondering if this is normal - when the phone is used at all, even on, there is a slight plastic / burny smell from the top, above the camera lens.

Not necessarily burning smell, more like odd plastic. When the device gets hot (using camera, wifi) it can get smelly when I put my nose up close.

In addition to this I used my USB cable and charger from my HP Pre 3 (outputs 1.0A) and it smelt more burny, like the internals was hot (the physical charger was warm (well, hot in device terms)). The USB port was smelly too.

Any answer to this? Odd? Should I start asking questions?

Mike

Is this the second hand phone you spoke about buying previously?
If off eBay I would raise a dispute with the seller.
If from another source where returns aren't possible then I would suggest you contact Nokia asap.

I understood it to be the phone discussed in the opening post. Buying second hand phones is not something I would do unless I knew the person I was buying from. Too many variants to go wrong. If the OP gets no joy from the seller the best option would be a Nokia repair centre.

Thanks all 😞

Yeah this is the phone discussed previously. It was bought off Amazon.

The phone gets very warm when in use (say camera, apps etc) but the smell always comes from the 3.5mm headphone jack. And as mentioned the USB when I charged it last.

I'll have a talk with Nokia care and see what they suggest.

That is an option but I would be seeing if the phone can be returned and get a refund.
