HSDPA on Nexus One

I have a Nexus One and have set up the APN following the advice here and other places, as follows:

O2 UK Postpay/ APN: wap.o2.co.uk / no proxy, no port, / Username:smileysurprised:2wap / password: password / server http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 / MMSC same as server / MMS proxy 193.113.200.195 / MMNS port 8080 / mcc 234 / mnc 10

everything works - but according to the O2 availabilty map my whole home area is HSDPA but all I ever see in the notification bar is G.

Any suggestions?

HSDPA on Nexus One

Two things to start with

1 The phone is set to 2G only (unlikely as it comes with 3G turned on by default

2. Your sim is old and is not 3G enabled. Take it out and check if it had 3G printed somewhere amongst all the numbers. If not then get a replacement from O2 (shop or online)

I'm surprised that your APN is showing as wap.o2.co.uk - my Nexus auto set to mobile.co.uk after inserting the SIM

Agreed, you will only be able to access wap sites if you use wap.o2.co.uk
Better to use mobile.o2.co.uk
No - there isn't an app for it.

Thanks guys. Will make that change. Are my other settings good?

Phone is not set to 2G only.

My sim has 3G printed but so many letters/numbers that could be random so will check with O2.

Just one point. Some Android phones show an H when connected to HSDPA the Nexus with stock ROM doesn't - just G and 3G

My auto settings are mobile.o2.co.uk with the password vertigo - the same as for the iphone

Well here's a thing. Doing some more googling I came across this discussion:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive ... 19798.html

So typing this into the keypad *#*#4636#*#* takes you to some mysterious and interesting stuff. I changed it from WCDMA preferred to WCDMA only and it showed 3G - but only briefly and anyway nothing worked - well I couldn't get result of a Google search.

My son has an HTC HD2 and standing next to me his phone shows H!!!!

yes that's the number I've got. I've asked O2 for a new sim so will see if that improves things.
