02 has no respect for customer privacy

I had been getting text messages from 07428327298 requesting me to text CLIAM back in refernce to a personal injury cliam, I rang 02 about it and changed My number, I have now started to get them again to my new number, who has access to 02 customer data base ? Am I not entitiled to data protection, if only 02 employees have access to the data base then it stands to reason 02 is responsible.
I rang 02 today and was advised I would have to pay a charge to change my number again, this I was not prepared to do, I then informed them to cancel my contract they told me I would have to give 30 days notice and pay a charge, this I am prepard to do as I am not happy that the data base of customer details are being leaked.
Who do I write to with regards to data protection (who is thier data protection officer)I regard this as a very serious matter which may not be of the scale of the phone hacking scandle but serious none the less, if you take your privacy seriously ditch 02 and request any information they hold about you to be removed from the data base !
I will be posting this on a number of forums and various social networks on the world wide web to warn others.I am not a happy bunny !

Re: 02 has no respect for customer privacy

Unfortunately, I believe you have misunderstood what is happening. The texts are sent to tens of thousands of numbers generated at random. They are not targeted at you and your data has not been passed on or privacy compromised.
No - there isn't an app for it.

And I would imagine carefully selected third parties will also disclose it on to others as they please !
At least sony's data base had to be hacked to get customers details, 02 gives it free or sells it on !

These texts are sent by an autodialler that hopes the number is live, it isn't because they have been given your number, everyone on every network is getting them.

Re: 02 has no respect for customer privacy

I'm sure that 02 being a provider has the ability to track these rouges down
and shut them down, why should I have to pay because of it, Hopefully watchdog (BBC) will take this case up and make it clear customers would have to opt in to these annoying calls and text messages on signing up, change is needed to protect customers

Re: 02 has no respect for customer privacy

It appears these texts are sent from batches of unregistered SIMs from different netwoks - used and then discarded.
I've had CLAIM texts from 4 different numbers.

Its time then that everyone getting them lets 02 know if they cannot stop it then the service they provide is not fit for purpose, customers should change to a provider that can shut these people down
I have an x directory home number for many years and have never recieved an unsolicted call to it !

The number changes all the time, and it's because the sims do get disconnected, the people who send these out use unregistered pay and go sim cards, top them up to get unlimited texts and then hook them up to a dialer. They tend to get disconnected within a day or so because they get reported, but because of the way pay and go works on all networks there is no way to stop them.
O2 have made a headway in stopping these people using their sims to do this, the unlimted allowance has been cut significantly to make it less attractive to scammers, but unless all networks follow suit there isn't much that can be done.

Re: 02 has no respect for customer privacy

My son and Daughters are on vodafone, have been for over five years and have never got one, how can that be explianed ?
seems to me too much of a coincidence to hit on my number twice after 02 changing it.
An effort should be made to tracj these people down and make them disclose just how they get the numbers, if they are facing a prison sentence i'm sure they will talk.
