I started the Zika Virus thread in January when it was first found to be in Brazil South America.
Breaking news this morning. It's now in Florida.
Four people suffering from the Zika virus in Florida are probably the first cases contracted within the US, health officials say. These are in the Miami Dade and Broward Counties areas
I have started a new thread as the advice is...newly pregnant women planning to fly to these areas for any reason (including holidays) should think of postponing their trip

sad news @Cairdeas
but thank you for 'verifying' what I thought I had seen in the media
& the Rio Olympics are oh so close now
I've heard a lot of the local husbands / fathers are leaving their families because of the effect on their young babies in South America
but I've also heard in time when the head hair grows appearances of the childrens heads will improve
not talking about the health of these children as they grow up because I don't know

There you go, quite shocking. It won't be long then before we have it serially transmitted or via blood transfusion in the UK. Hopefully a new question for blood donors will be whether they have visited Florida recently....
In the US they are testing all donors before they are allowed to give blood...

just finished reading your link @Cleoriff ... how very very sad ... my thoughts are with these babies & their mothers & family in general
As an aside ... = ... noticed rubella was mentioned as something not to have during pregnancy ... read a link to cleft lip / palate as a cousin of mine had this ... & ... a medication valproic acid I am on to steady my mental health is mentioned as something not to be taking during pregnancy
All thought provoking ... & ... as a general comment, I shall always say thank Aneurin Bevan for our NHS
