Re WhatsApp calls, could we see mobile operators effectively stopping this in a way similar to how they sort of stop tethering? ??

They could block the ports used on mobile data or provider wifi but they can't touch a personal wifi connection.

Yeah, tried it out, also tried out BBM calling. Both worked just fine.
