A good friend @perksie has just posted this....halfway through the year and another icon passes. You have to be of a certain age to remember the original Avengers on TV.

Oh what a shame. I remember 'John Steed' very well.... R.I.P.
The Avengers gave Joanna Lumley a step up the ladder as well

He had a long and varied career and you couldn't say butter would melt.
He was expelled from Eton for selling pornography and being a bookmaker for his fellow students.
He also served as a sub-lieutenant on motor torpedo boats in 1943.

He used to visit his mother who lived in the Methuen Arms Hotel in Corsham, Wiltshire, where the lads I worked with would have a drink on payday.
Others spotted him visiting but I never did.

Him and Joanna Lumley were good, who was the other one, Peel? The actress who played her, with the dark hair?? Oh that's gonna bug me now!
There were also Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) and Tara King (Linda Thorson), the original star in the first series was Dr David Keel (Ian Hendry) with Steed as the assistant back in 1961.
