Meanings of Usernames

Anonymous
Not applicable

Have you ever wondered what some of the usernames in this Community mean?   Some are simple - for example Gerry, diminutive of Geriatric (which is how I feel most mornings until I get my nightcap!)

One that intrigues me is @anticpated  -  is it perhaps a concatenation of antic (old), pa (father) and Ted.  Is anticpated a retired priest - Old Father Ted?

Have you any theories as to origins of particular usernames?

Gerry

The 67 is my birth date...

Why'd your neighbour call you that?    Dob 1867? - you're getting on a bit then!   Bouncy

That sounds interesting!

"Anticipate" and "expect" are often used synonymously (but often incorrectly). One may anticipate an event that is expected, but it would be tautological to rewrite that as "One may expect an event that is expected."   For example if you have been told that "you may expect a £1,000 bonus next month"   you may (if you are so inclined) anticipate actual receipt of the cash by pre-ordering a new all-singing, all-dancing mobile phone.  Those with experience in the armed forces in years past may well have heard the Drill Sergeant yell "Don't anticpate!" at over zealous recruits who performed an order ("about turn!"  or "Stand at ease" ) before it was actually given.

Gerry

(PS  I take it you are not an Old Father Ted then? Smiley Embarassed)

Of course...if I am wrong I sincerely apologise...:smileywink:
