Dorset - what a stunningly beautiful county!

I have just returned from a short holiday based in Dorset - by the banks of the River Piddle in fact - and have to say that I fell in love with the place.   Stunningly beautiful and varied landscapes, a very rich historical and cultural heritage to explore throughout Dorset, Devon and Wiltshire,  and the most friendly and helpful people you could ever wish to meet.

At the Coast, Lyme Regis is a lovely place and Lulworth Cove is magnificent though as happens with all these popular places they are being destroyed by too much commercialisation.

The only downer was the pathetically poor O2 network reception throughout the region.  Perhaps other networks such as Vodafone and EE serve the area better than O2 seems to be able or willing to manage.

I have to agree Gerry. My extended family live in Marlborough in Wiltshire and I always have to use the backup EE phone to contact the rest of civilisation. When will o2 sort out their coverage. Heard all about the 2017 promise but good god this is 2015 not the dark ages.

I find it strange that back in 1969 we could talk to people landing on the moon (allegedly ) but in 2015 I can't contact someone in Bolton from Marlborough. ...

I have to agree with you @Anonymous as I lived in Bradford on Avon for many years and used to travel the whole area for work.

Very hilly though which played havoc with the mobile phone and many radio signals.

Ever been to Swanage in Dorset @Anonymous or @jonsie? One of my favourite places.

Glad to hear you had a great time slight_smile

Yes indeed - we went to Poole (and saw a fox in broad daylight walking along a very residential avenue!) and later took the short ferry ride over to the Swanage side and drove to Lulworth Cove.  I could happily live there!

Hi @perksie  It is not a place for the nervous driver!!   I think my SatNav took great delight in routing me down the narrowest and most twisting lanes and alleys in the Country - but all the more enjoyable for that.  We never got lost (well, not for long anyway!)

Did not mange to get to Bradford on Avon  but I hear it is very beautiful too so have it on list for next time (he said hopefully).

I love Dorset, I would definitely live there if I could.  We are going to Lyme Regis again in September and I can't wait.  When we were in Lyme in March I had reasonable recepion on O2 but my husband struggled with Vodafone.  To be fair we were staying in an apartment with walls that were part of the old sea wall so that may have had something to do with it!
