Where's the Parental Controls?

Hey, I've got an O2 Wireless Box II TG585v7 on software release 8.2.7.7 which I'm logged in as SuperUser. I also have McAfee Internet Security Suite which came with my laptop.
Although, under Toolbox there is no Parental Controls link which I've seen images of over the internet.
I want to be able to block certain inappropriate sites so that no one using my WiFi can access the blocked sites.
Any help? thanks. :smileyhappy:

Re: Where's the Parental Controls?

I wouldn't bother, as the McAfee won't do what you seem to be trying to get it to do.
The McAfee suite only protects the computer its on - if another computer connects to your wifi, the Parental controls in McAfee won't stop that second computer accessing those sites.
For that, you'd need some solution on the router.

Re: Where's the Parental Controls?

I'm fairly sure the 8.2.7.7 update removed the Parental Control feature from the O2 Box II.
You could roll back to an earlier version but that may cause connection problems.

OpenDNS is good for web content filter / parental control.

Re: Where's the Parental Controls?

A simpler method which blocks adult sites is opendns/familyshield:
http://www.opendns.com/familyshield
It's not customisable and easy to bypass, but may be useful if the previously mentioned telnet method looks a little daunting.

@npr1
I did setup my o2 wireless box as per your instructions but I still cant make the filters setup on my openDNS account to work. I have blocked a certain website but I can still access it via IE.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Re: Where's the Parental Controls?

Hi pw123,
Can you first go to this site, it will tell you if you're using opendns.
http://www.opendns.com/welcome/
If this says you are using opendns then please sign in to your opendns account and click on "network" under "settings" then "add manage networks".
At the very top of this page it will say "your current IP is a.b.c.e"
Is that IP the same as the IP shown further down the page under "your networks"?
Note:
You PC has a dns cache, if the blocked site is in there you need to wait for the entry to expire before the site becomes blocked. Similarly with the browser cache.
Alternatively you can flush the pc's dns cache and browser cache, or just turn the pc off and back on.
