Using BT Internet mail on O2 Broadband

I recently switched from BT to O2 as my ISP, but i still want to continue using my BT Internet email address.

Whilst I have no problems receiving email into my Apple Mail Program, I cannot send them via mail.btinternet.com anymore, so what do i need to use as the outgoing server?

Thanks.

Using BT Internet mail on O2 Broadband

change the outgoing server to: - relay.o2broadband.co.uk

you should be able to send then.

Switch the mail auth off too!

sending emails

Didn't work for me:-(
ever since I am with o2 I can;t send emails via OE
My original settings for email address requires authentication for SMTP when I changed smtp server as sugested above and turned off authentication I still can't get it to work:-(
I also tried changing settings to use same as incoming mail but still nothing
It's soooo annoying, I just can;t find right settings
Any suggestions..?
The error message is The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'poczta.o2.pl', Server: 'relay.o2broadband.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
It worked ok with Virgin

Don't forget to switch on outgoing SMTP authentication and authenticate with your o2 email and password.

Using BT Internet mail on O2 Broadband

I switched from BT in late october and my btinternet email address seems to still work with Apple Mail as well as the online service. My smtp settings are:

Description: myname@btinternet.com
Server Name: mail.btinternet.com
Use default ports (25, 465, 587) checked
Use custom port unchecked
SSL unchecked

Authentication: Password
User Name: myname@btinternet.com
Password:

I suggest switching to plain old yahoo or ymail, if you're fond of the btinternet interface. Although I haven't tried the o2 service, I'm more confident with yahoo being a big company and all! I don't think BT have any obligation to keep old email addresses.

USING BT INTERNET MAIL ON O2

I use my old old BT internet account still. The only stipulation to keeping the BT account open is that you keep your P.S.T.N. dial up account going, and you use it occasionally. Just have a couple of minutes on the net every couple of weeks or so. That way you don't have to play with the mail setting every time. My main reason for keeping the account going was to use it as a back up if the broadband went down. Have an alternative dual diversity arrangement now anyway......
