O2 wireless router updates - Help/advice please

Further to the service status on o2 website on 5th March 2012 that wireless boxes would receive an update automatically overnight. My wireless router is only switched on when I;m using the internet so not left on overnight - does that mean that I will not have received the update?
How can I tell that my wireless box has received the update (if it has). I have wireless IV box.

Thank you

Re: O2 wireless router updates - Help/advice please

Routers are designed and constructed to be left on 24/7, they use a minimal amount of energy. In general when idle around 5w is consumed i.e. <10% of a 60 watt bulb.
As updates are normally pushed out during the dark hours the chances are yours won't be included.

What is the particular update for?

I think it's support for the new network", or IPv6 as here:

Maybe not though as Abs is asking for beta firmware testers at the top of the forum.
When I asked a few weeks ago, I was told it's a mopping up operation for those who missed the update last time.
It's all very secretive! :smileyvery-happy:

If its big changes (which it seems to be) and you stop the upgrade you may end up with no connection though.

Cheers all - I suppose I need to leave on the box overnight then to get the update......
Out of interest does anyone have the update already? Just wondering what the latest software release is on the IV box.
Checked the settings I've got the IV box TG587nv2 - software release 8.4.3.k (signed up to 02 at the end of Jan 2012).

I suspect the update being pushed is only a config change in readiness for O2's new network.

Any config change is only for static IP connection.
The O2 CD containing the firmware can be downloaded here, the box IV firmware and config on the CD is over a year old.

Re: O2 wireless router updates - Help/advice please

You really should just consider leaving the router on all the time. As said above, energy usage is absolutely minimal and providing your connection is secured with WPA/WPA2 there's no security risk. All you're doing is causing a regular disconnection which might affect your line stats and performance.

There's nothing to be gained from turning the router off so often.

8.4.3.k is the latest FW (for the IV box) that's been pushed out so you're already updated.

8.4.2.r was the previous firmware if I recall correctly.
