McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

[ Edited ]
This has been a problem since re-formatting my laptop 6 weeks ago:

Message pops up "Your computer is not fully protected, check protection status"

(Little McAfee icon has a cross on top of it)

I open McAfee security Centre, which tells me that:
The detection signature is more than 30 days old
Your subscription has not been activated.
Full scan not completed in last 30 days.

I press the "FIX" button and wait.... and wait....

A blank webpage opens:

http://uk.mcafee.com/apps/misp/webreg/w ... ?cid=30869

but nothing happens>
:smileysad:

I have attempted to resolve the problem by re-loading McAfee from the O2 Disk supplied when I signed up 18 months ago, bu the same symptoms persist.

Any Ideas?

McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

Hi andrew.white277

Thanks for your Post.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with McAfee registration. If you've tried installing McAfee online and also from O2 installation disc and have the same problems then I would suggest you to call our customer support as they can verify the problem and provide you with right resolution.

Please let me know if you need more help.

This problem usually occurs because you've had security software on your computer prior to using o2's Mcafee.

The way to solve this is...

1. Uninstall the o2 Mcafee from your computer.

2. Try and remember the security software you used prior to Mcafee such as Norton. If your computer was new at the time of installing o2's Mcafee try and see what the trial version security software was when you got it. Once you know what it was go onto google.co.uk and in the search box type the name of the software and add on 'removal tool' so for example: Norton removal tool, AVG removal tool
You will need to do this even if it was actually Mcafee you had before taking up the free Mcafee that comes with o2.
This step removes any trace of the previous software which causes a clash with the Mcafee from o2 in turn throwing up the red herring 'subscription expired' message.

3. Once you've ran the removal tool simply install o2 Mcafee again as you've done in the past. It should now work correctly.

McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

Hi andrew.white277,

Typically, you get the subscription not active issue when the installation didn't complete correctly.

Firstly, did you have any security software installed before installing our McAfee? If you did, you should make sure you use removal tools associated to that software vendor. E.G. If you had Norton Internet Security installed, you should download the Norton removal tool. This can be found quite easily by googling 'software title' removal tool.

After you've done that, I'd suggest fully removing McAfee from the Add/Remove Programs (or equivalent if you're using Vista/Windows 7). Reboot. Download the McAfee removal tool (Here: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe) and run that. Reboot again.

Now try reinstalling McAfee by following our install CD process (the install program runs then follow that though).

Let us know how you get on.

McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

I've never used the version from the disc, if i need to reinstall I always (after running the removal tool) log onto mcafee's website using my o2 email address and d/l the latest version from there, that way it automatically picks up the subscription info

Meh is absolutely right. You don’t have to re-install Mcafee from the disc once it is registered on our servers, just go on to Mcafee’s website and download.

https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Login.aspx

Username: your O2 email address.
Password: click on forgotten password and it will send a new password to your email address.

Also ensure that you've enough licences available for download, this depends on the package you have.

McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

Hi andrew.white277,

If you'd like, I can have a look at your account to see if McAfee has registered correctly on our side or not.

If it has, Iqbal is absolutely right in saying you can download a pre-registered version from McAfee directly.

If it has not, this will mean that something has stopped the registration from completing correctly. We'll need to get eliminate anything that is stopping the registration from completing successfully then reattempt the installation again.

Thanks for all your help folks!

'tis now sorted, having done a clean out and install from the website as suggested. It also worked for my new computer equipped with windows 7!

McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

Paul & Iqbal,

Is it possible to put this info on a sticky? I (plus others) have posted detailed instructions on this on a number of occasions as it seems to be a common issue but obviously slips down the forum til a new thread is opened. :smileyvery-happy:
