Re: McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

[ Edited ]
I have a McAfee subscription question as well. I have had o2 broadband since last July but did not bother with McAfee because I have Norton on my desktop. After going round in circles I have now managed to set up & activate a McAfee account using my o2 email address & downloaded the latest version & installed it on a netbook. The thing is, it is only a 30 day trial. It there any way to make it permanent or will it update itself? Personally I do think it will.

It sounds as if you've downloaded the public version, as you don't have to set up an account for this, you just use your email address to get the O2 version from here:
https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protecte ... GIN&ctst=1

Thanks for the link but I am still having problems. First of all the Mcafee website is not compatible with Opera, just get a load of text & asks me to reparse as HTML?? Tried the link with Chrome & Firefox & the Mcafee site now tells me that cookies are disabled in both browsers. Have checked the settings & cookies ARE enabled in both browsers! There is something really weird about the Mcafee site, like they don't want you to use it?

Here we go again! Used the above link, logged in using my o2 email address & all I got was a message asking me to pay for the 30 day trial which has just finished. No options to download anything. Then I used the latest O2 disc & ran McAfee from there, it checked the pc & then downloaded & installed McAfee again. No options to activate, the programme just ran. GUESS WHAT? ONLY A 30 DAY TRIAL AGAIN! This is directly off the o2 disc. I have also ran verify subscription with no affect. Also I ran the McAfee removal tool before the current installation. Judging by the many, many people with the same problem posting on here I think it is a total o2 con, they do NOT provide free security software & I think this needs to be taken further. If it does not work off the o2 disc, you stand no chance.

Re: McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

Hardly a con!
If I log into my account at the McAfee site I get "Welcome (my name)"
and my user account details:
My Protection Products
3-User McAfee Internet Security
Subscription 1, Via: O2
Total Licenses: 3
It sounds as if for some reason you're not registered properly, so have a word with O2 and they should be able to help you.

As you can see, no mention of o2 (I put question marks). I am registered but it is not tying up with my o2 account. As I have said, it's not just me, lots of people have the same problem.

Ring O2 and I'm sure they'll sort that out for you.
You seem to have registered for their retail products.

Re: McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

Another update, I have now managed to install McAfee off the disc via O2 Installer_3.2a_Live/Software/Security/Install. Once installed I ran the update & now have Security Centre version 9.15, build 9.15.179. Is this correct? The interface looks different than the previous McAfee & says "Together with o2" on the top. Previously I tried running McAfee/DMSetup off the disc which downloaded the "retail" version. Does DMSetup update my existing installation further (latest interface)?

Re: McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

If you've used the O2 Installer you should be ok.
I can't verify the version as I don't use it, perhaps someone else can.

Re: McAfee Subscription Problem: Can you help please?

At long long last I have fully sorted it. You HAVE to install McAfee off the o2 disc first, you don't have to run the broadband set up programmes etc, just go straight to broadband extras & install McAfee. This installs McAfee & also registers it with McAfee as well(obviously you have to be on line), a message confirms this. I then logged in to my McAfee account(using my o2 email address) & lo & behold it showed my "public" subscription AND my o2 version (via o2 as Perksie said yesterday). You also get a download link, which gives a choice in my case which version to download, o2 or public. I selected o2 & this goes through various processes which in the end installed the latest version with the new interface complete with "together with o2" on the top & no mention of a expiry date! I didn't have to do any of the password reset business. It has been a long winded process but I think the moral of the story is that you have install McAfee off the o2 disc first & let it register with McAfee. Finally, thanks for all the help & info found on the forum which put me on the right track.
