i brought my daughter a new iphone 5s in August to replace her old one, i increased her data allowance 6 fold, 500mb to 3gb as she kept going just over her limit, this morning with 1 week left to run on this months allowance, she told me she has used up all her data again, blaming the latest update and wifi assist, how can this be?

Because wifi assist was turned on by default, she is correct.
She would be best turning the feature off to save data, as with it on, even if connected to wifi, her phone will still use mobile data to boost the download speed and drain her data allowance.

You can turn the feature off in settings -> mobile data then scroll to the end of the list (after all the apps listed) and you will find the setting to disable it.

I have found from experience that it tends to use more if your using Wi-Fi hotspots, rather than home routers.

If she knew about wifi assist why did she not turn it off already?
