cant connect my new upgrade to 02,

Got my new upgraded phone today. Put the nano sim card into it, cant get it connected to 02 network, got a few texts telling me how to set it up, but they sent them to my old phone an sim, old sim wont fit into new phone, rang them today and they said the nano sim was my number, im probably being really stupid here but i know nothing about phones, any advice would be appreciated.
