Very Bad data connection in W11

Anonymous
Not applicable

hi there,

it has been 10-15 days that the data connection in this area is really very bad inside apartment, pages don't load, have to wait very long - and used to work very well. I have reported to O2 phone support and the network guys twice, every now and then from http://status.o2.co.uk/ i would see maintenance going on but nothing has changed.

I am seriously thinking of leaving as i cannot use data anymore on my phone basically.

anyone having the same issue in west London?

thanks

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the forum,

A generic help help thread full of tips here http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-and-Pay-Go/Self-help-guide-Is-the-network-down-for-me-or-everyone/m-p/593752#M59833 however as O2 do not give updates on when their masts will be back up and running it's a case of keep checking the status page and perhaps reboot your phone when it's showing as good.

Perhaps if your a pay monthly customer look at o2's Tugo Service which works off home broadband wifi http://www.o2.co.uk/help/products-and-services/tu-go , or perhaps Whatsapp or Viber , which need the recipient to have downloaded too as interim solutions if calls become an issue too.

It seems mast congestion is playing a very real part for users across the Uk right now too. 😞

Sometimes toggling 3G connection to off in the phones settings to push the phone to 2g can help.

If you do decide to leave O2 then I'd suggest checking out alternative networks by way if their Payg SIM cards to ensure they give you good signal etc.

Your current phone if locked to O2 can be unlocked here https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form which is free to contract customers and £15 to Payg customers. Do this before you leave.

Tugo won't help with your issue so don't bother with that option.
Your issue is most likely the same that the whole of the uk is suffering from which is basically too many people trying to download data at the same time.
O2 are working on upgrading the network but currently it can't cope with the volume.....

It comes and goes in some areas and the inconsistency is one of the biggest issues.
At least if I am going somewhere I know that doesn't have good data coverage I can take a different phone that does but if I go somewhere with usual good coverage and find out it's not when I get there it's very annoying.
I am starting to leave my old S3 in the glovebox of my car now with Three and EE sims in it so at least one of the networks can get me connected wherever I go !!

Slightly OT but do you get data on both SIMs @MI5

Any dual SIM phones I've had only got 3G on one.

Yes mate. I use a magic sim adapter which gives 3g (or 4g) capability to either sim card.

Is that dual standby or switch between SIMs?

No that's the downside, you have to manually switch sims.

well, you understand that is very annoying, though, it should work, full stop.

i am wondering if they have been under some DDOS or something, as it was working fine, say one month ago..really strange.
