Scams Continue

Tonight i had a call from an Ammanford (Wales) number 01269 849592. Being a normal looking landline number i answered it but i struggled to hear the other person.

So i did a Google search and it would appear this is another ppi type scam only this lot are using Skype to cut down their own costs! !!!

Why oh why does the law allow this?

Do you guys remember a piece of software / App that converted an incoming unknown number into the actual number ,but was banned.

In this day and age and current trend I cannot see why a number has to be hidden ,as some companies use numbers you can see but cannot use to ring back on anyway.

I believe it is a legal requirement for any UK based business operations to have to transmit a number, however, this does not stop those based overseas.....
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Might be legally required for a UK based business, but as @jonsie says, it doesn't apply for calls from doctors or hospitals, and those calls have to be answered, and as you say, if they're calling from outside the UK, there's nothing to stop them.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

And they are definitely on the increase.... either someone who claims to know I have Windows on my laptop

....and those who start a conversation by saying 'we are ringing about your PPI claim'. I think the volume of calls received by people nowadays just shows how easy it is for the 'scammers' to get your numbers (landline and mobile) Smiley Mad

It should be looked at how these companies come by numbers too.

Buying lists of peoples numbers numbers etc should be restricted.

Obviously some use dialers too.

With the generic auto diallers there's no need for your number to be on any list anywhere.
The computer algorithm will get you eventually.....

What shocked my husband yesterday was when he had a call on his mobile from a company talking about his so called PPI claim....

I have put mobile in bold because that phone is hardly ever used. ...(he was very reluctantly dragged into the world of smartphones...he was even worse than myself!)

In our house we have come to 'expect' them on the landline...but not on mobiles (incidentally I have never had ONE scam call on my mobile) Cat

Yes I know it's probably only a matter of time.....

I've had a few of these scam calls on my mobile.  I don't answer though if it is "uknown" caller or withheld number or private number, generally I don't answer anyway if I'm at work.  I just let the phone ring until they give up.  However I had a call yesterday though my phone didn't ring but I got a text alert to let me know I had a missed call.  I have just received a voicemail also, it is a recorded message about PPI.  Again, though, my phone didn't actually ring though I'm not bothered since I wouldn't have talked to them anyway!  Honestly though these people are so annoying but I have managed to block one or two slight_smile  I think it will take a while for them to realise that I will never speak to them.
