Take it to an Apple store and they will replace it for you. If its not convenient they can arrange a doorstep replacement.

@Anonymous please don't do anything rash re your contract. That phone is new and still under warranty. Contact Apple support UK directly and they will replace the phone for you.

Thing is you aren't actually speaking to O2 by posting here. This is a customer to customer forum. If Apple told you 'to leave O2' did they actually explain you would have to pay off your contract before you did leave?
