A couple of weeks ago I complained to O2 that I was getting text messages which said " You have missed a call from me at (for example) 19.57 on the 6 May. This is a free Call Alert." It also tells me how to disable this option, but the option is useful if I have missed a call due to perhaps being on another or temporarily out of signal.
But the annoying pasrt is that in every case there is no call on the call log and in most cases my phone was in front of me when the text arrived, no call had been missed..
One of the numbers I traced to a company selling Ink cartridges and toners. Another I have had today comes from a firm that does extended warranties for cars etc.
So it looks to me as if O2 are actually allowing this system to be used for sales purposes by third parties.

@AnonymousYou are obviously using the O2 Call Alert service
http://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-and-devices/missed-call-and-abandonded-call-alerts.
If you feel you are getting spam calls ot texts from this I suggest you turn off the call alert service for 24hrs and then back on again. If the problem still persists then ring Customer services http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus
Other than that you can lodge a complaint by using this link http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain
