4g news

There are 4 main networks in the UK; EE (T-Mobile/Orange), O2, Vodafone and Three. To date, only one of those networks has 4G coverage in Bristol.

That network is EE. Created by the merger of Orange UK and T-Mobile UK, EE (also known as ‘everything everywhere’), launched 4G in various UK cities on 30th December 2012. One of those first launch cities was Bristol. But since then, EE have remained to be the only network with 4G coverage in the city.

So what’s happening with the 4G coverage from O2, Vodafone and Three? We went to find out more.

O2 – After contacting O2, they told us that O2 4G would be launching in Bristol “very very soon”. They later said that it would be in a “few months time”. Last Thursday (9th January 2014), O2′s service status website showed that coverage in Bristol may be patchy on that date because works were going on at all of O2′s Bristol masts. We asked about this and O2 said that “all cells in the Bristol area are being updated in preparation for 4G”. So it appears that O2 have got their 4G network ready for their Bristol launch. Unfortunately out past news post suggesting that O2 4G would launch before the end of 2013 appeared as just a rumour.

But Ronan Dunne is on record that 2 million more customers a month will be in 4g areas so how will that work ? http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/2013/09/26/o2s-4g-network-goes-live-in-five-more-cities/

Well as I'm not seeing any news release from O2 4G rollout plans or schedule for my area (Blackburn) I'm paying up the rest of my contract and moving to EE they've all ready enabled 4G here. I'm not waiting any longer.

Do ee also give decent signal for calls /tests where you are ?

Ie by trying out their Payg SIM cards.

If so then sad to see you go.

Your choice entirely, but why would you pay off your contract (ie throw money away), just so you can get a 4G connection?
Is 3G not fast enough ?

Five reasons

1) Since end of Jan O2 data signal in my area has detoirated more often only get Edge, spoke to O2 and they say that they are working on the problem and to date theres been no change (empty promise).

2) have friends on EE and they are happy with the 4G data signal they get (it does drop to 3G) that's better than Edge to occasional 3G

3) recently needed to buy a new phone (which is 4G one) and want to take advantage, don't want to travel 30 miles to Manchester to try O2 4G.

4) wait until god knows when for O2 4G to arrive some say 2015 others 2017 and O2 are not forthcoming

5) it's only 7 months to buy out

Thanks, it's been a hard decision as I've been with O2 for over five years.
