upgrade from 4s to 5s

I have just upgraded from iphone 4s to 5s, how do you transfer all photos and 'notes' and apps from 4s  to 5s?

Hook upto iTunes and hit sync

Or part of the initial set up process of the iPhone when you insert the sim and turn on is to use an  icloud back up. That is if you have back ups to work from.
