received a new iphone 5c today. after puting in the sim, phone displays no service. help!!

I lost my old phone. This is a new phone and a new sim.

After the op 2nd post I had a feeling it was heading this way hence my asking has the loss been reported. @MI5 has asked my next question

I reported the problem to o2 who cancelled my last sim. I did not report the lost phone to the police.
