no service

My new iPhone 4S arrived yesterday. I went through all the motions as instructed. I can go online with my wifi, send email, etc. Where the icon re phone service should be, it displays 'no service'. Help, please. I'm not new to O2 or iPhone and never experienced problems with service or reception. Thank you.

Hi @Anonymous and Welcome to the Forum,

Check your masts status via your full postcode here http://status.o2.co.uk/

And check no carrier updates are pending. Help link http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1970

As jonsie says if your original sim is the wrong size to fit in the iPhone 4s ,then you will need to carry out the simswap via the link which will take approx a few minutes to 24 hours to complete. Turn airplane mode on and off or turn the iPhone off and on to help the re connection through this period.

If it does not show the O2 icon in the status bar after that then the new sim could be faulty ,but give O2 a call first to have your account checked. Numbers are here : http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Give the sim card a wipe and if you have another phone try your sim in it as a process of elimination.

If your account is ok then I would pop into a high street O2 shop who will carry out another sim swap for you.

If you have not received the iPhone through O2 but through other avenues such as auction sites then it's a good change it's been imei blocked.

However If your sim is ok then the iPhone may be at fault itself and can be looked at by an Apple Genius Bar via appointment here http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/geniusbar/

Edit ; You have 14 days to return the iPhone to O2 under the faulty handset policy.

Let us know how you get on. slight_smile

There seems to be a wide spread problem with service. We have had terrible coverage in Dorset for the past 24 hours or so. No service at all! Hence i am doing this from my EE i-pad. Do not think it is necessarily something you are doing.

Hi Lizhurst.

Welcome to the Forum.

Try turning off your phone, remove the sim and wipe it and turn the phone back on.

Your masts are showing : working fine
We'll be carrying out some maintenance on our phone masts in this area on the 07 July
Updated 04:00 (refreshed hourly). Recent faults might not show yet.

So the maintenance scheduled may cause issue.

Congestion on the masts is another reason too.

Hope it clears up for you.

I've had the same issue since I updated the phone to KitKat 4.4.4, it worked perfectly before then, my partners phone is exactly the same. Tried new sims etc. but still a problem. Finally managed to download TuGo so having to use that for now. Smiley Frustrated

All the advice we can offer is on this thread. If you think it is a software fault you should approach O2 or your phones manufacturer for help.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
