My device thinks that headphones are connected, but they are not.

So the microphone and speaker are not working. Only when i put in the headphones..weird....

Check for fluff or dirt in the port, it's the main reason this happens.

If not fluff, take phone to an apple store to have it looked at.

If the above advice doesn't work then try a reset or restore by iTunes before going to an Apple Store just to rule a glitch out

Common problem on all devices with open sockets as they collect fluff from your pocket which then gets pushed in further when you insert the headphones.

Another reason I use Bluetooth stereo headsets (backbeat 903) and even have a waterproof case protecting my ports lol

I have even seen 3.5mm plugs that act as an IR remote ! But not just earphone sockets affected by this all plug in ports !
