I'm noticing the same thing! I've been using wifi as much as poss but alot of my usage is when I'm out and about.
My 3G never used anywhere near as much!
I called 02 but they really couldn't answer my question but told me a 4g phone will use loads more data.
Last I checked the iPhone 4 was 3G? So no response from o2 then!

but surely they cant change existing contracts from unlimited to capped, thats got to be against the rules, especially if you took on the contract with unlimited??

They cannot unilaterally change an existing contract without the customer's agreement. If they do the customer has the right to walk away from the contract without penalty.

It's worth noting that if the customer doesn't register their non-acceptance of amended terms pretty quickly then this may be deemed as acceptance when they continue to use the service.

i reset my statistics on thursday and just checked and i've used 5.4mb

Mine seems to be running high too, since Thursday I've used 130MB. I haven't used any more than I usually do, this data cap coming up is starting to worry me. How can you check online what data you've used so far?

I'm glad someone else has noticed this, i have used 71.6mb in two days and i can't figure out how at all! Some of the data was used when i streamed 5 mins of the football, but i dont rinse the internet or facebook. I can only think something like 'location services' might use some data?!

Seems ironic they are putting a cap on the internet data and then usage has suddenly shot up for a few people. One guy i know has used 10.2gb of data in two days! Something isn't right. Any one know a way i can tell what i have used the data for?

i think the data counter doesnt include wifi downloads, i watched a small tv clip and that must have been about 5mb at least, les than a minute long, i dont know how 500mb can be justified tbh

Same with me too. However some of it has to do with poorly implemented ios4 features. On my tunein radio app I had it playing in the background and when I'd finished I turned off the music using the taskbar control. However unbeknown to me it kept on buffering the stream in the background for several hours until I realised.

Have the people on here who have noticed the high data usage by any chance used a backup on itunes from a previous iphone. A box usually appears when you sync the phone for the first time and gives the date of a previous backup to start from scratch.

If so this may be the reason why the counter is showing high as it will have transferred all the usage from your previous iphone.

Just thought I would mention this to see if it the reason why you are having the problem.

Not the reason for me as I reset the counter. I really want to get to the bottom of this. My phone is no good to me if I'm scared to use it!

I ve just checked mine when I woke up and it's used 1mb during the night with no use at all!
