have taken card out and cleaned put back in,sometimes works for a while then goes back to no sim,have turned phone on and off and still no joy
i am just restoring phone now any other suggestions

right tried to do a restore and its come up there is no sim card installed in the phone you are attemptin to activate (even though it is in there)

could be eithe a sim issue or sim reader issue have you tried a different sim or a new one from o2?
If a sim change is not working could be hardware how old is the 3gs is it in warranty?

thanks for reply yes i have swapped over sims to another 3gs phone and the dodgy sim is working in my phone(its my daughters 3gs that is playing up),have put mine in hers and then its completed restore just waiting for it to finish backing up and then will swap sims back over,both phones are a good couple of years old cheers

no both on pay as you go as soon as i swapped sims back it doesnt work in her phone,yes i know we could swap phones but if fault on simcard i suppose it could bugger my one up

Hi yes it is on iOS 5.01 and just turned on to check and it's working again now lol

You aren't the only one with a 3GS that plays up after upgrading to 5.0.1
No one seems to have found a solution yet so probably when 5.1 or what ever it is called is available it will address it ............enough noise on Apple.com communities that Apple cannot miss it ,despite not monitoring the Forums
