iPhone 5 not ready for 4G in the UK

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi - just found out like many others that the iPhone 5 from 02 wont work on 4G because of the banwidth of 800mhz. I bought the phone on the premise it was 4G ready about 3 months ago. Anyone else think there is customer mis-selling going on here?

Hi,

It was well documented with the iPhone 5 came out that it wouldn't be compatible with UK 4G except for EE, this is due to the frequencies supported by the iPhone 5. Most networks including O2 offer a 4G promise for those who bought an iPhone to upgrade early and cheaper to a 4G phone.

Most expect the iPhone 5S (to be announced on September 10th according to sources) to support all networks 4G.

No misselling since the iphone 5 launch it was made clear not on o2.

Please use the search at the top many threads from last september and the o2 website is clear in the 4g section it would not work

All that was known was that the current iPhone 5 could be used on the first 4G Network ee.

It would only be Mis selling if you have written proof from 02 that it would work on their 4G service.

From 02's site

"If you brought your iPhone 5 from us between September 2012 and 31 March 2013 you also got our 4G Phone Promise. That means you can upgrade anytime during your contract to get your hands on a brand new 4G phone.

Not only that, we're throwing in 25% off the cost of your current contract so the jump to 4G's even easier."

When i got my iPhone 5, in the tariff it clearly said when O2 come with 4G. I can change my tariff to 4G.

all this information has been taken down by O2 now. this is clearly a miselling by O2 and now its a cover up.

25% of remianing contract is not an offer. i still have to pay monthly for the new 4G phone even after paying out the entire contract.

It was always stated that O2 did not support 4G on the iphone 5 hence the announcement that people could upgrade to the iphone 5S at a reduced rate. There was no misselling involved.

If you've got the 5S then when O2 have the 4G stuff from Apple you will be on 4G, meanwhile O2 are discounting the monthly cost by £5.

Do you have written proof that you were told this or did you just "think" you could?
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
