O2 do not respond in here just us customers.
There is the complaints review service see several threads about this
Itunes is always required to activate an iphone or perform the network unlocking as the info is heldo on apples servers not o2.
I wish you luck.

Re: The iPhone Unlock thread- Post your unlock questions her

Hi I was asked to help a friend in Austria who has just got a second hand iPhone (more than 2 years old) to replace a broken one on his network. He has had some problems as many seem to have and asked me to contact O2 and ask some questions.
Well I have just got off the phone with a very nice lady who has told me the most incredibal story. The bottom line seems to be that if my friend cannot get the original owner to call o2 and ask for the phone to be unlocked, IT cant be done!! This is like buying a seconhand car and being told you cant buy the tax disk because you were not the original owner, MADNESS.
There are ways to find out if the phone is stolen (just as there are ways to know your car is not stolen) so it is not about fraud (as she told me) because my friend has the phone and can pass on any info about it that is held in the phone which can then be checked just not anything about the original contract. The only thing he can do is swap to an o2 contrcat to use the phone. Surly this must be extortion? I had read some comments on the web about taking on an o2 contract for one month and asking for the phone to be unlocked, she told me this would still not work and the only way to unlock would be via the original owner. I asked what would hapen if the original owner had died? The answer was the same, you will have an interesting paperweight.
Sorry for the rant but surley this cannot be right? I understand the need to make sure this is not done by scammers and the phone is not stolen but surly there must be more flexability to this? does anyone have any solutions to this problem?

Re: The iPhone Unlock thread- Post your unlock questions her

MY PHONE IS NOW UNLOCKED.
Although I still will not be able too use it with other SIM cards in other countries unless I access a computer first.
.1 I receievd an SMS saying the phoen was UNLATCHED..go to itunes to unlock.
2. Went to itunes, connencted the phone, signed in itunes account and the phone autimatically unclocked.
3. my itunes account was set up withuot using a credit card, When itunes asks for personal details and credit card details, on top beside the card details icons click NONE. (if you dont want to register a card details.
4. I threated to cancel contract on the Monday mornign and I receievd the SMS Saturday before Monday.
5. Apple should still sort thier sh*t out for people who travel abroad and use local SIM cards, cos NO one has a computer at hand usually when getting off a plane or when first arriving in a foreign country. This computer unlock process is a crock of you know what...

Somewhere on this forum it says once you unlock do a full restore and hot swapping sims works.
Also as the carrier file can now be pushed ota perhaps that will stop the issue as well.

Why would you need a computer to switch sims, I can do it any time I like as can anyone else with an official unlock. Been unlocked for nearly a year by o2 now and no problems at all.
I do usually turn it off first but certainly don't need to.
