Slow reception

Anonymous
Not applicable

using either my iPhone 5 tethered, or my O2 mobile hotspot, download speed is really slow.  However, tethered to my wife's Samsung on Virgin / Orange, speed is great.  All the checks suggest that O2 reception and coverage is good.  Any thoughts on this?

Do a speedtest on both networks and compare the results.

Thanks.  4.25Mbps on V/O, test repeatedly failed on O2, presumably because it's immeasurably slow.

I have no idea where to go next!

It sounds like you only get 2g on o2.
You can check here or see if there is a fault http://status.o2.co.uk/

Yep, unless it improves if the area gets 4g, there's no other choice.

I too am and have been seeing really slow speeds on O2 for the most of this year, no network maintenance or 4G coverage in my area, so I'm moving to another network shortly (EE).

From the tests I've done in the exact same location between EE 3G and O2 3G, the difference is like night and day. I was struggling to get between 0.5-0.8 meg on O2. On EE 3G I was hitting between 15-16 meg, plus with EE I can get 4G (it's the only network in my area that I can get it on).

Sad to leave O2 as I've been with them for around 17 years (back in the Cellnet days) but I don't see any point in stopping with a network and paying for data use that is too slow for my uses.

I agree, unless 4G is coming to your area very soon, then it can only be a network change that would improve matters.

o2 coverage checker states I have excellent overall reception in this area, but in the pub last week, I was trying to accept a few friend requests on Facebook, and everyone could get on but me! My friend on EE logged in to my acount on her phone and accepted them for me. Embarrassing lol x

It is embarrassing @Cairdeas this has happened to me but the other way round. When away with friends in Somerset for 4 days, I was the only one who could get any type of signal whatsoever. One friend was on Vodafone, the other on EE...
