Re: Signal Problems

I run a business and if I were to treat my customers like this, I`d be sacked. They say "you should nt judge a company by how they deal with things when they are going well You judge them by how well they deal with things when they are going wrong" I`m really disappointed in o2,obviously your customers are nt important to you, otherwise you would tell them whats going on. marks 1 out of 10

It seems a lot of phone companies these days are lacking the whole "customer service" I left orange and vodafone for it. The only reason I joined O2 was for the coverage, which is meant to be one of the best in the UK and the apparent customer service. Well I went to Bluewater O2 store today, was standing around for 15 minutes until I walked out of the shop. All I wanted to know was what was going on with the signal situation, as I a relatively new customer, thinking I could go in store at my local shopping centre. There was only 2...!? members of staff on the shop floor. One in the process of selling a phone and the other too busy laughing and giggling with an elderly customer and her Galaxy S3....there were several people in the Queue behind me, but not even an courteous "I wont be long"....just that event shows the piss poor service. let alone the lack of info O2 are providing to us. And i'm not alone in saying that my monthly bill isn't exactly cheap.

O2 posted this at 2pm and have been updating it since, they also posted on Twitter and Facebook:

Re: Signal Problems

That's fine :smileyhappy: I haven't been able to get to a laptop until about 30 minutes ago and read online. But obviously I couldn't use my phone internet, very difficult to check when my phone 3g/2g is down, you just get that stranded feeling when you can't even make a call or text because of an unknown issue. Thanks for the reply though.

Re: Signal Problems

I feel very disappointed by how O2 have dealt with this outage. Someone earlier in the thread remarked it would have been nice to have received an e-mail warning there was a problem. Not all of us use Facebook and Twitter. I was convinced there was something wrong with my handset. I had the sim out and everything, cleaning it, all to no avail. It was only when I got home and online did I see a BBC report about the problem. I don't know when my signal went down but I noticed it at 17:00 hrs yesterday and it is has now been exactly 8 hours since then and have had no service throughout. I don't want to condemn O2 until we learn exactly what has gone on here but I will be expecting a healthy rebate on this month's charges at the very least for inconvenience caused. Going to bed now and am hoping normal service is resumed by the morning. :smileysad:

Re: Signal Problems

In the defence of o2 (and no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but do work as a system administrator), large networks with a customer base of this size are incredibly complex systems. No matter how much redundancy you put in place for high availability, there is always going to be a weakness somewhere in every system run by every company, and at some point that weakness will become apparent - that's just the nature of technology. Last week it was natwest, this week it's o2. Next week it'll be another major company. I could understand the frustration if it happened every month or two, but it's a very irregular occurrence. Accusing them of incompetence like so many people have is very unfair. If you rely on your phone so much that you can't live without it for a mere few hours, I seriously suggest you look into backup plans for when this (inevitably) happens again - if you run a business you should have your own business continuity plans. No matter what company you are with, it will happen again at some point. As for informing customers, they did publish it on the network status section of their website, on facebook, on twitter (which doesn't require a twitter account to see) and on multiple popular news networks. I found out from other sources before even realising my phone was affected.

Re: Signal Problems

agreed, i've had to live without my phone for the last 13hrs, I know it's a major part of my life but i still got on with it, not just sat around waiting for the network to come back.

02 is one of the biggest mobile phone networks in the world and it's bound to go down once or twice, I've never had any trouble until today.

tbh there are certain things that 02 havent done today that would of been a lot easier for them to do with public relations and customer satisfaction.

we didn't receive any update until 4hrs after the first outage and then heard nothing until another 4hrs after that update. As paying customers i think they should of kept up updated a bit more and give us more information as the media (bbc news, Daily mail) was giving us more information.

Its a few things that could be work on, but they r only small things, but the most important is that the network is up and running before 6am otherwise it's gonna start all over again.

Jsumner i do agree when u say people coming out and criticizing them of incompetence, as it was unfair on the company, as it's happened once, and you learn from your mistakes.
