Yeah, same as cloud sms apps if the op has iPhone they can and should use that.
But as a stand alone product and using their own allocation of inclusive texts, I'm afraid the iPad comes up short.

Continuity would use the phones sms plan too, not the iPads.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Yes agree re the above. The only thing I understood from my reading was it didn't achieve much at all. When you sorted through the bumph.... basically an ipad on its own wont send or receive sms..

This made me laugh, an old article but relevant...

http://blog.mightytext.net/welcome-to-the-party-apple/

"Last week, Apple announced the ability to send/receive SMS from your Mac in OS X Yosemite.

Welcome to the party, Apple!

As some of our loyal users point out below, we’ve been doing this in MightyText for years (for Android users), as have competing products like DeskSMS.

We’d love to build an iPhone version of MightyText, if and when Apple allows developers to integrated with SMS on the iPhone.

So, welcome to the party, Apple. We’re all out of drinks and food, and the DJ is leaving soon, but feel free to hang out and chat with some super cool Android users."
