I am doing this new update on my iPhone 5, and I am just wondering how long it takes because it's been on one screen for ages with an iTunes symbol and a charger symbol and it has been like this for nearly two hours, also I can't access my phone of turn it back on.

@Anonymous

How have you got on with this ?

Hope your sorted.

If you are still stuck after going through all the tips and advice then if you have a local Apple Store then either make an appointment here http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/geniusbar/ or if it's close pop in and if there not busy a specialist I'm sure will help.

Hi

Are you updating to iOS 7.1.2 ?

Shouldn't take 2 hours although it depends on how busy Apples Servers are.

Are you updating using iTunes or via OTA on the phone ?

If your iPhone is stuck or frozen after you attempt to update the iOS, then I'd suggest to try a hard reset.

Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes blank. Release both buttons.

Apple logo appears and your iPhone comes back to life.

Just tried what you told me to do, it did what you said and gone straight back to the screen I had before with the iTunes symbol and a charger symbol?

Here is a help link http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4623

I suggest you first make a back up to iTunes and or iCloud.

Then launch iTunes.

Hook up your iPhone and you should get a pop up message saying an update is ready. If not then just hit check for update.

Leave it to do its thing.

Is it still hooked up to your PC/Mac ?

Unhook at hard reset.

Again by holding the top button and home button until the Apple logo shows and let both go.

Let me know if that works.

Look here about recovery mode http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

Last resort:
If not then read this link about a DFU RESTORE
